Cobra liquor, SCAMS and bamboo clothes! 🇻🇳 Vietnam, Mekong River Delta Full Tour!
Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City. On my last day in Saigon, I decided to do a day trip and go see the Mekon Delta. I joined a tour group and they brought us in so many places, but in every place there was always a little scam behind. There was no point to go see the Bamboo Fiber Shop, it was just a pure scam in the hope we’d buy some of the bamboo clothes. Then we finally took a boat and we started crossing the river Mekong Delta. Arrived on an island, I had the chance to try snake liquor/cobra liquor that they say they use to cure themselves. The maximum cobra liquor shot allowed is 3 and I had 2. We also went to see how they produce candies from coconuts and then we had lunch somewhere. At lunch, there was another little scam: no water, nothing to drink unless you pay for it. Also on the boats, the women driving them demanded tips. The whole tour was full of scams/tips, but fortunately, the prices were not high. Therefore it was the perfect ending of this vacation in Vietnam.

I've been waiting to see what kind of lunch was served with the tour. Anyway, how satisfied are you with the Royal Blue Hotel? Would you recommend it to a solo female traveller? Is the surrounding of this hotel safe to walk around? Please advise.

They have some similar “scam “ sales stops in Thailand when you book a day trip , like when going to Koh Larn island for the day, the bus stops at a “ Unique” Pattaya honey factory ( on the fringe of Pattaya city) where the have bee hives & collect & bottle honey and make other honey based products, The make some interesting claims about how clean & unique their honey is.

A thought about "scams": Of course there are true scams where people try to take your money for little or nothing in return or when you do not receive what was expected, advertised or promised. However, indigenous people selling their wares and crafts is not scamming, it's locals earning their living! I've lived in Central America for over 4 years, the last three at Lake Atitlan, Guatemala and I am appalled at how rude many tourists are – they gawk at the surroundings, photograph locals in their indigenous clothing and their crafts, and then feel they are being scammed when these people try to earn some income.
Totally agree about the showroom/sales thing. I'd be much more inclined to buy if I saw the creation process!
